Chat with the Kraa team
Do you have feedback, questions, suggestions or anything you want to share? We are here, happy to hear from you!
Kraa team: @levmiseri, @pepacek, @shionuzuki
This is an old and now archived chat.
this is clean. great job!
OMG! kvak. IO 2.0 is out! Seriously, this is really cool. Thank you!!!
By the way, how did you guys do that text effect at kraa.io/about?
That's not part of the editor and was custom made for kraa's landing page with javascript.
What's the actual pronunciation of Kraa? (Right now, I just say it like the "Cr+'a'") But is there a stated method?
No stated method, though we are internally pronouncing it the same way. /kraː/ (kraah)
Can you guys add more outlines to menus cuz it looks a little confusing at times
Also is kvak.io original going to still be maintained or are you planning on moving it here
@dracula We will keep kvak alive, though we hope to achieve the same simplicity with kraa, even for people who don't care much for the extra features. (e.g. 'kraa.io' will soon redirect to a new leaf rather than the landing page)
What do you mean with the outlines to menus? Is the information hieararchy confusing?
It's like- when you're changing settings of your leaf, the settings look a bit cluttered
I see. Yeah, we are still working on and improving things. Kraa is in beta now.
That's great to hear. It's a really great job you all have done it looks beautiful (and also thx for responding to my message super fast!)
@dracula Yeah, I noticed they respond really fast too. I think it's because kraa.io isn't as popular as something else, where it takes the team ages to respond.
Hi! Thanks you creating this app. I am an avid user of kvak.io. I am trying this app to see if it improve the experience. One thing that seems to happen in both app is that copying text and paste to notepad/chat app results in text with multiple empty line and the "-"(bullet) or "1. 2. 3."(ordered list) doesn't work.(They wont get copied over). Would be amazing if team can fix it. Thanks!
Also would be great if the image get copied too!
@norques Hi! Thanks for the feedback, we will investigate why these quirks are happening and see if we can fix it.
Hello! Is there any way to turn off dark mode?
Yes, but only if you're signed in. Then click on avatar and the theme switcher at the bottom.
Wait.@kraa Don't you have to be signed in to talk?
No, you can have 'anyone with link' set to 'writer' on your leaves. No sign-in required.
Would there be a placeholder name or something, or just blank?
I know that you can share notes and make them without being signed in, but if you are online, what name would you have? (Also, make dark/light mode save between visits?)
You can see some anonymous users in this very leaf. They have the 'Anon' prefix + some random bird type. Once that particular user creates an account, that placeholder is rewritten to their displayed name.
Sorry about the dark/light theme, it's going to be persistent in the next update.
Hello, I'm a new user and would like to see some FAQs or instructions for creating the first leaf.
Any chance you can remove the Ctrl+/ for a new note? (I understand that it is kind of helpful, but it does mess up my userscript slightly.) Or there could be something in settings to change keybinds.)
Adding general shortcuts settings sounds reasonable and relatively easy. We'll look into it :).
@obakechan hope you found a way! If not, just click on the Kraa logo (top left) and you should see a 'new leaf' button.
Hey, when directly copying from a leaf in Kraa, paragraphs seem to be really spaced out. Is this because of the formatting or an actual issue?
And is the Time Machine a way to get back any changes made to your leaf? (was going to suggest a way to save a version of your leaf if you make a mistake, and you can just bring it back.)
@TSbacon The copy paste is a known issue. We are looking into ways to fix this.
And yeah, Time machine will give users ability to 'go back in time' and restore earlier versions of the leaf. This is still work in progress.
Ok. And the blacklist is obvious, I guess.
@TSbacon thanks for the ideas! This is great! Answered inline in the leaf.
Hey there! Is there any custom domain support?
@Petrev01 Not yet, but we thought about this. Most likely won't happen this year. Hopefully in 2026 :)
Custom domain support as in, like, example.kraa.io or kraa.com?
Like having your blog articles or other content on another non-kraa.io address, similar to what e.g. substack does. But there are too many difficulties with this for now to be considered a reasonable pursuit for us in the near future.
How is kraa and kvak being funded? It looks expensive to make and maintain.
Also are there only three people
Yes, the team is just 3 people for now. Kraa has no investors nor any income/revenue, yet. We are planning to introduce paid features like short urls for your leaves (e.g. kraa.io/{1–5 characters string}, or extra storage space for media and images)
I was wondering how you guys are actually keeping Kraa and Kvak maintained. I do have a question, though. Do you have to pay once to get the mainframe/server stuff, or is it a monthly thing?
Servers are for now relatively cheap compared to everything else (dev time). We are still figuring out the right monetization strategy, but we will always keep the app itself free and only charge for extras like short URLs, more storage and possibly some advanced features later on.
I just realised the connection between bird names, avatars and leaves.
Should probably add filters as an option in settings, but anyway, lol.
I do have a question about the security of kraa. How is security maintained when it comes to making a note private? I understand there is passwords but behind of course someone finding out the password how much more security is there behind the Kraa Team not being able to view the notes
This is going to be great!
@Anon Hill Myna Right now we have a similar model to e.g. Discord where leaves can be private, but utlimately live on a server that we have access to.
We do plan to have a full encryption of non-public leaves, but it's going to take some more work/time.
How are you going to monetize this?
We plan to charge for things like short URLs (kraa.io/{string}), short usernames (since you automatically get a short URL for your profile leaf), and storage space for media/images.
Otherwise, Kraa will remain free for unlimited number of leaves and with 100MB space for images (might be increased in the future).
noticed the new tag feature. Seems I'm the first? Do tags now work as 'Everyone' and 'Public'?
Tags are for now quite basic — you can tag your leaves with anything you want and then search for these tags in the list of your leaves. Later on, this will get more advanced with more options/features.
Kraa Pro would let you use more than 5 tags?
Also, will the time machine do autosaving every few minutes or a slider for the last 10 or something minutes, and then you can drag the slider right to go to the current time and left to go backward?
(i feel the second option is cool.)
Report button for inappropriate (and public, obviously) leaves?
Could use some help on the password side of things, have it set up as password —> writer, but when trying to use password to login the password entry box just goes brownish red and nothing happens. I am using the correct password and double checked
@TSbacon No, we generally don't want to limit features artificially like this. We will increase the number of tags per leaf.
Exact workings of the time machine still to be finalized. But, that feature is coming relatively soon :)
@no Thanks for the bug report. That's indeed broken — we will investigate what's going on and fix it.
Also to confirm, Blocks are paragraphs?
'Block' is in our terminology any piece of content. Paragraph is a block, but also a headline is a block, a list, an image, ...
Locking leaf editing with password doesn't work the same way as kvak.io. Entering password doesn't unlock the editing permission. It seems to do nothing so far. Please take a look.
Thanks, we are looking into this. Will be fixed in next week's update.
can I have a date automatically added to a new parag? To render a leaf like a blog… thx! great app!
Where can I follow the updates on the app ?
@Night Heron yes, you can! In the template settings (··· -> Leaf settings -> Appearance -> All blocks -> Activate "Date" in the Show block info section)
@Flatbill We need a changelog leaf we could link to. Will be done this week and I'll share a link here as well as from the kraa.io/about page.
how can i export or import leafs from md files
@lukeandgladys Export and Import .md/.txt feature coming soon! Will be ready before the end of July.
Thanks! Glad to hear you like it!
A short question is it possible to set "link access" to no access and protect it with a password? If i call the leaf, it says "Access to this leaf is password-protected" but if i enter the password, it does not show me any thing... I does not matter what i enter into the password box. It will be always red (i think this means wrong)... With a new leaf the password works... But the password protection with no link access does not work. In my world the password protection should be over the link access. But beside of that, very nice app, thank for your work.
@Silthis Yes, this is now broken and we're fixing it. Sorry about that!
What do you mean with 'file over app'? If it's about export/import .txt/.md files, that feature is coming soon!
Kraa looks promising — a good distraction free interface and low friction. Will you be developing apps eg iOS and Mac desktop? I have an aversion to internet-only writing born of too many bad experiences!
Thanks for the kind words! Yes, apps are planned for iOS and Android first and Mac coming later. (and much better offline support in the plans as well!)
It's a competitive and crowded market niche — important to look serious with what people perceive as 'proper' development.
Can I assume that Kraa will support note linking and backlinking?
Indeed! We hope that Kraa has some unique features that differentiate it from the rest, including the distraction-free writing experience. But we are still actively developing it. Kraa will support note linking and backlinking (with the semi-standard [[leaf-ref]] notation), but that's coming a little later (2026). The iOS/Android apps, bug fixes, and core features are the priority for now.
How and where exactly can I confirm my account?
@profesorstrada Hello! You should have received an email to the email address you provided during sign up. If that address isn't correct or you haven't received the e-mail, let us know!
Are you planning to add the md extended syntaxis, it includes check boxes, tables, etc?
@alejandro checkboxes are already supported (type [] or [x]). Tables and other extended syntax is planned.
You're right, thank you! I'm excited to see how Kraa evolves.
guys... light mode? :( thank you... and latex if possible... and excalidraw. just ideas
@Shagun light theme is available. Click on your avatar and click the toggle in the bottom right part of the screen. Latex wouldn't make sense for Kraa, but we have our own theming options and we do plan to introduce math formatting/features in the future.
was just reading thru the teamchat all over again.
Not much to say other than amazing job!
handwritten notes for mobile? (perhaps option in settings to use text or.. not text.)
@TSbacon Thanks for the kind words! Handwriting module would be nice indeed and something we will look into. Should actually be fairly simple to add as a block option inside the slash menu.
I’m really impressed by what you’ve built and was wondering if you’d be open to a potential sponsorship with a productivity YouTuber. If so, could you please share the best platform or contact to continue this conversation? I think this would be fruitful for both parties
@Anon Hi! Please reach out at ––– (or right here on Kraa by inviting the @kraa account to your leaf as a writer). We're looking for such opportunities.
Hi I can’t access kraa on my windows 11computer, chrome. I get a blank screen only.
And which yt channel? I would like to see that
@TSbacon that's very concerning! I sent you a DM in hopes to get to the bottom of this.
@TSbacon here. Made a new account, as Outlook (my email provider) is stupid; updated software; can't reset password because I have to log in, and I don't have the passkey for it.
Hey team, feature suggestion: Would love to have something like collapsible group, if possible.
@Anshika Kashyap Thanks! That's something we definitely want to have. Will be in Kraa within a month.
@Anshika Kashyap "Collapsible group"—you mean like multiple users can be in a group (or some other word Kraa may want to call them), and then you can easily invite the entire group to edit a leaf?
Hi! I found this app on Reddit and absolutely love the simplicity! But I can’t figure out how to use the gallery mode for images. Can you help me?
@camilaarguello Hello! Is there a specific issue you are facing? In general it should work by selecting the gallery block inside the slash menu (typing '/' on a new line) and then uploading as many images as you want. Users with verified email address have more storage limit for uploaded images.
(This may be a problem on my side; I'm not sure.) Is the landing page still on Kraa.io? You know, the one with the cool animated text? When I type Kraa.io, it doesn't appear anymore, and I get my Welcome to Kraa page instead.
@Thesmartestbacon This is a recent change. Kraa.io now leads directly into the product and should redirect you to the last opened leaf.
Kraa.io/about is where the landing page is at (for first-time visitors there is an 'about Kraa' link in the header that links there.
is there a way to make the background white?
@Anon Euphonia Signed in users can change Kraa's theme in the user settings (click on avatar)
it would be awesome if there was more snappy, keyboard-friendly shortcuts, navigation, etc— it would make navigation and writing efficiently so much nicer (currently, the pop-up menu feels a little too large/clunky, and you can't do things like Ctrl+K to input links)
is it possible to increase page width?
is kraa related to like, ravens or something
We do need to improve shortcuts and keyboard navigation, though the basics should work well. You can create a new leaf via CTRL+/ (CMD+/)
Page width is for now non-changable.
And yes, ravens are the overall theme of Kraa :).
Hi there. I am having trouble with log in
Seeing as you are signed in, I'm guessing you resolved the issue? Your username is the one you choose during sign-up. (E-mail is not the username and is an optional addition)
I had to create a new account. Is it not the same as the
does pasting in markdown work?
love the product so much btw. i used to use blank.page to write quick notes down etc, but i always wanted something with multiple pages, beautiful markdown support, interactivity, and a super nice, minimal UI- this checks all the boxes!
Thanks for the kind words! Pasting markdown doesn't work, yet (at least not plain-text markdown. Pasting already styled text (converted markdown) should work.
is there plans to make kraa self-hosted? :0
yeah, self-hosted solution would be very useful for some sensitive content.
any plans for a desktop app?
also any thoughts on temporary leaves? (auto-deletion or one time access)
Kraa self-hosted was considered, but not something we can look into in the short-term future
Desktop app is planned, but release likely in mid 2026
Temporary leaves is an interesting idea. We will think about it!
Nice product! In the future, will there be any sign-ins with other services like Google, Apple, etc.?
@Windsorluc No. At least for now we want to keep Kraa detached from such sign-in methods.
I'm having issues making an account where no matter what I type it says "failed to fetch"
This sounds bad and I can't reproduce this. Would you be able to give us more information?
Does creating an account itself work? Or that's where you see the 'failed to fetch' error?
Is that happening when creating a new leaf? Did you have any such error when adding text to this teamchat leaf?
Are there any plans for being able to customize the character wrap limit? Am I missing a setting? On my desktop some blocks forcefully wrap at ~1/3 of my screen width, maybe because of past edits on my phone?
Unsure how to reproduce but also sometimes the wrap will cut into words, something looki ng like this :(
Nice website, a little buggy, but very cool.
I noticed a blacklist feature, and that will prevent people from accessing the note, but does it block the account? Because someone could just log out or use a different browser, or does it do some kind of IP ban using Grabify? link
@kokidoki There are no plans for now to allow customizing the width of the editor, though all of the blocks should wrap at the same point.
Words wrapping mid-word sounds like a bug. If you have a link to a leaf that has this, it would help with fixing it! :)
@kraa this example seems to work across devices/accounts; tested easily by holding delete or "a" in the line. still don't have any idea what causes it, i can only pick examples out of my journal entries..
Wow, this is awesome! Thank you so much! ♥️ 🐦⬛ Using this as a simple tool for organizing car pools for our childrens' soccer team!
(Might take a while to answer.)
Is the copy and paste fixed?
Hi hi! There are lots of improvements coming together in the next version. Estimated release 24.11.2025.
@kraa is there a way to export leaves as markdown? will there ever be a method to do so?
@kokidoki this will be possible in the upcoming version (few weeks away)
Here's an idea: in the leaf list (when clicking on the kraa icon), you click on the leaf, and it opens in the current tab, right? But maybe an option menu to:
Pin the leaf (so it always stays at the top)
Remove it from the list temporarily or permanently.
And why was kvak.io's logo a duck?
Hiding leaves in the preview is something we have in the plans. Pinning sounds like a very sensible feature as well, adding to the list!
kvak's logo – in many languages 'kvak' is the sound that a duck makes, so that's where it came from :). Similar to Kraa's raven theme.
Ah ok. Thanks for explaining that you like birds basically. :D
And the timestamps, like in this leaf, how would they work across time zones? (I'm just rlly curious)
